Tobias Arbo has created a record focused on the modest magic of life – a kind of focus only possible when you concentrate on the essentials. ”The difficulty of choice lies in the illusion of everything you discard by committing to something, with all the other thousands of possible paths we’re constantly exposed to through modern day life. Bombardments of empty promises of things you could be, things you should be, reminders of things you aren’t,” the Swedish songwriter, producer and multi-intrumentalist explains the sentiment of his upcoming debut album. He’s advocating to follow one thread, it might just lead you out of the woods.  The YELLOW WOODS.

Capturing the sounds of Sufjan Stevens, José González and early days of Bon Iver, the Swedish songwriter, producer and multi-instrumentalist envelopes every day marvels in supple sounds, shining a calming light on the extreme emotion of tiny thoughts and encounters. “Through the eight tracks on YELLOW WOODS I want to express an anxiety to let go and move forward into something unsure and unknown”, Tobias Arbo muses. “Like the yellow traffic light, the light of ambivalence, that signals the impossible space between stopping and continuing. An ambivalence prevalent in an overwhelming world of endless possibilities, where curiosity and wanderlust are easily replaced by a longing for security and subterfuge.”

Arbo himself, with producers Zach Hanson (Bon Iver, Owen, Sylvan Esso, Waxahatchee) and Linus and Hannes Hasselberg (Plasí, Moonica Mac, Melissa Horn, Cleo) adding some finishing touches. To complete the worldbuilding, artwork and press pictures for YELLOW WOODS were created by photographer Olof Grind (Phoebe Bridgers, boygenius, First Aid Kit, Veronica Maggio), who captured the glimmering prospect of changeableness in Tobias Arbo’s message on film.

The making of this album helped Tobias Arbo get out of a state of depression and social isolation. Maybe you find something in these songs that helps you find your own way to a lighter and kinder view on yourself.
