Alexia Evellyn
"Outsider"
There's coincidence. And then there's Alexia.
Located between magic and earth, enchanted by nature, in the arms of one of her totems - also known as Brazil - Alexia Evellyn has been searching for her true place in the realms of our existence. And she has found it, it seems, in her art. Alexia Evellyn's music comes from the soil, from the wind of the past and the fire of a present that needs alignment with nature more than ever before. Her music is a force, fortified by her love for the universal soul in all things.
Over the past years, Alexia Evellyn has amassed millions of followers on her social platforms by showing her audience a glimpse of what humans were actually created for: roaring with the storms, answering to the birds, stomping through the mud and staring into the fire, all the while singing with gaping ardour for the sole purpose of doing it.
Amassing over 20 million global streams on her debut EP "Dark Side", Alexia’s journey to commercial success has already taken her across the world to perform her previous singles on national TV in China to over 150 million viewers and almost 1 billion on local social media.
"Outsider" is a single from the new chapter, her upcoming EP "Hell Hath No Fury", which will be released this summer.
- "Outsider” was born on a cold day in London. I was still learning the language, learning how to exist far from home, trying to be enough in a place that didn’t know me, trying to exist in that place without apologizing.
It was a session with someone I admired.
I thought it would be a dream to write with him.
He laughed - at my voice, at my accent, at my country, at the way I wrote.
He said he didn’t understand what I was saying.
He asked what I was doing there.
And I…..smiled.
Because I had a “good girl” syndrome. Because I wanted to get it right.
Because I didn’t know yet that sweetness can also be a place where we violate ourselves.
I interpreted it all as confusion. As a cultural difference. As my own fault.
But it wasn’t. It was small-minded.
And I began to make myself small right along with it. Until a tear fell… silent, almost polite.
And even then, I kept smiling.
I left saying I wasn’t feeling well. The pain wasn’t in my body.
It was realizing how easy it is to teach a latin woman to doubt herself. To say sorry for being there.
On that day, I wanted to disappear. To go back to Brazil, to my language, to my forest, to the version of me that doesn’t ask permission to exist. But a few days later, in another room in that same London, with friends that understood the pain I felt…
I was heard. Truly heard.
No laughter. No corrections. No shrinking away.
And that was where this song began to scream.
“Outsider” was born of the moment I stopped abandoning myself just to fit in.
I am Brazilian. I carry a sound that needs no translation. A heart that fits no mold.
And perhaps I’ll never belong in the way they expect. And I feel proud of it.
If this song finds you, I hope it gives something of yours back to you.
May you feel free to take up space without softening who you are. You can scream.
And be proud of your roots, of your strangeness, of your whole voice.
Perhaps you have felt your whole life that you don't fit in, that you don't belong anywhere.
May this song be a place for you.
Yes, we don't fit in. We are the Outsiders. And we fucking love it.
We let Alexia use her own words to describe the upcoming EP:
"Hell Hath no Fury is a big question mark for me.
It's about feeling without giving a plausible explanation.
It's about giving space to a body that has never been allowed to feel anger, a feeling so forbidden to us women.
What am I if I let go of these certainties that I swallowed against my will?
This new EP, unlike the first, talks about things I haven't resolved yet and that I'm still going through. Some of them in a visceral way.
It talks about being a foreigner, about being Latina, about xenophobia, and about my desire to simultaneously be part of the world.
It talks about the colonization of Earth and female bodies.
It talks about my struggle to accept a universe that I always saw as dirty and disgusting and that I now see as a tool.
It talks about me becoming the woman I want to be, with my fury and my heart no longer destroying me and leading me to relive my traumas again and again, but how I can actually use that to create the world I want to see born.
What is it to be this woman if I see no horizon and we have so few references to what freedom is? What does it mean to have limits?
What is fury? What does it mean to accept my sexuality and sensuality without selling myself to the devil who abuses me?"
