RⱯHM ⚉ knows a thing or two about confronting yourself.

SO CLOSE BUT So o  º  ˚  ˚ ˚ f ƒ ª a r ®️ ˚ was written three years ago, two years before COVID-19, but it uncannily fits our moment. Influenced by synthesists like James Blake, Arca, and Sophie, the album is a self-excavation you need to hear. “I consider music making to be a kind of mining, or maybe spelunking. You grab some hot feelings way down there and try to bring it back up to the surface. The album came out of that mining of feelings.”

The feelings that Rahm banked here are those of asymmetrical expectations. To reduce these perceptions to a pop pulp, Rahm turned to Ableton and recorded introspective soundscapes in his empty Chesterton, Indiana, childhood home. Out came tracks like “tree in a sidewalk” or “all the days” that use everyday marvels like pigheaded seedlings breaking through concrete and lukewarm bath water to explain the everything of everything.

but SO CLOSE BUT So o  º  ˚  ˚ ˚ f ƒ ª a r ®️ ˚ is rich with ravishing harmony, sumptuous melodic wanderings and bubbly beats that will ease you into its universe.

Together with the record, RⱯHM ⚉ will release the focus track "all the things". "For me making sound stuff is a lot about remembering the total wtf magic of ordinary circumstances — ordinary feelings, ordinary days. Like right now for example this whole tropical storm thing raging over this Brooklyn apartment and with my two little ears I'm hearing what was ocean water falling from the sky and spewing out the gutter. It's wet and grey and inconvenient but when I'm in a good mood it's miracle material, like better than string cheese. And I think the same goes for being an ordinary person. Doing unspectacular things. Being boring. Being flawed." The track will be accompanied by a new performance video.
